Laurie A. Robinson

Laurie A. Robinson is a principal with Mir ∙ Fox & Rodriguez, P.C. and leads the firm’s national Healthcare and Public Sector Advisory Services Practice. Laurie has over eighteen years of program policy development, regulatory compliance, internal audit, risk assessment, and project management experience gained from working for the Office of Inspector General for the Federal Department of Health and Human Services, Ernst & Young’s National Health Science Advisory Services Practice, and an international internal audit consulting firm.

Her experience includes providing internal audit, complex regulatory compliance, and advisory services to her healthcare provider, payer and government clients.

Currently, Laurie leads a team of over 200 employees who provide project management services for seven (7) Federal Disaster Housing Assistance Programs (DHAP) (Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, Gustav and Ike) in coordination with FEMA/HUD and Local Public Housing Agencies (PHAs). Her team also provides program integrity and audit services for the Federal Medicare Program.

Laurie led the project management of the City of Houston’s emergency housing and rental assistance program following hurricanes Katrina and Rita before the program was transferred from FEMA and HUD. Such services included leading a team of internal auditors, case managers, project management, for FEMA compliance services. Her team was instrumental in developing internal controls and documentation processes to successfully prepare and guide the City of Houston through an Office of Inspector General - Department of Homeland Security/FEMA review of over $400 million in federal grant funds.

Before joining MFR, Laurie was a Director for Jefferson Wells, an international internal audit consulting firm, where she had overall responsibility for the Government and Healthcare Internal Audit Practices for the Houston/Austin/New Orleans areas. During this time, Laurie served as the interim Chief Audit Executive for one of the largest insurance company in the State of Louisiana and managed the co-source internal audit for that company.

Her prior experience includes serving as the Legislative and Regulatory Liaison for the Office of Inspector General (OIG), Department of Health and Human Services in Washington, D.C., where she conducted day-to-day legislative and regulatory policy activities and initiatives on behalf of the Inspector General. During this time she provided technical assistance to the United States Congress and other government agencies concerning auditing requirements for Medicare Part D, Medicaid, Medicare Advantage, and the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP).

Prior to the OIG, she was a Senior Manager with Ernst & Young LLP in its national Health Sciences Advisory Services practice since its initiation in 1998 for both the Houston and Washington, DC offices. In that capacity, she developed and maintained key business relationships, managed projects, and managed project staff for the Gulf Coast and Mid-Atlantic regional areas.

Her prior professional experience includes holding positions as a legal analyst and regional associate compliance manager for Prudential Insurance Company of America where she assisted in the development and implementation of its nation-wide healthcare legislative and regulatory tracking process and Central Region’s Compliance Program.

Her healthcare and government industry specialties include developing work plans and implementing processes for compliance with new, amended or revised laws and regulations, and the development of internal controls for those processes. She also specializes in fraud and abuse issues, OIG Compliance Program Guidance, Federal and state privacy laws, Medicare and Medicaid, FEMA and other Federal and state regulations. In addition, she has assisted clients with the development of regulatory and corporate compliance programs.

Laurie is a member of the Greater Houston Partnership Healthcare Advisory Committee. She was a member of the 2005 Class for the Center for Houston’s Future an Affiliate of the Greater Houston Partnership, and also served on the Executive Committee for the National Practitioner Data Bank from 2003-2004.

Her educational experience includes a BA from the University of North Texas, a post-baccalaureate certificate in advanced legal studies, and a MBA from the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas.
